PhotoBucket - Those Dirty Bast##ds!

Postby TeeZed » Thu Jul 13, 2017 3:49 pm

Hi Folks,

Now I think I understand the current problem with PhotoBucket. At first, I was a bit confused. However, I've recently received emails from PhotoBucket making this more clear.

The emails go something like this:

WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*

....and it continues:

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

I don't quite understand how EBay pictures are related to PhotoBucket, but......

Now they want you to pay for this service, but unfortunately many of us have links (to PhotoBucket) on this forum (and thousands of others forums I'm sure) and they are in the process of eliminating those links (unless you pay the ransom) leaving many broken threads (no photos).

Personally, I'm NOT going to pay!

Some members are trying to upload the pictures they used in threads and edit their posts with new links from other photo-hosting site. However, there have been problems.

I don't know what the solution to this mess just yet and welcome input from the members.

I've never liked photobucket because it is soooooo slow. The absence of a good photo host discouraged me from posting photos. I guess that's why Facebook is popular these days.

I just went to see if my photobucket account is still alive. I can't believe the amount of advertisements! You have to close down about 4 ads just to see your photos behind the ads. It looks like they're trying to get rid of their their non-paying members.

It is not just Photofucket.....
Most sites are flooded with advertisement.
They all start as a friendly free site, luring you with the warmest welcome.
It is about time this empire comes to an end :ugeek:

I am sorry to see this but most web sites are not started for philanthropic reasons but to make money and one way of making money is to host advertising.

Like many sites it's free at first until they get established and popular then bang, a little charge at first which many pay then ramp the charges up slowly.

It's called capitalism, everyone is a market.

There is nothing wrong with making money.
But it would be more civilized to be clear from the beginning.
Now there are thousands of users being pressed to pay or see years of work go to waste.

It is like this: I invite you to my house as a guest.
Give you drinks and food and we have the nicest chat about classic racing all day.
You start to feel at home and accept another beer on my terrace at sunset.
During dinner you have to listen to my tedious friends that come in one by one, trying to sell you all kinds of rubbish you don't need.
Before you leave I present you a big check for my time and all the delights.
My last friend that came in during the evening was a bailiff, so you go home a little intimidated and disappointed

 Damn good idea.. why didn't I think of that before :geek:

If you use Chrome, try installing these apps. They might work for you until photofucket discovers a work-around. I think they have jiggered up the first one. They seem to be working for me.

If it works download all the images before they F*** this up again.
